Pick at the pops: 9 October 2006

Our weekly round-up of the weird and wonderful world of pop music...
Acts of folly kick off this weeks pop news with reports that two more series of The Charlotte Church Show have been commissioned. One can only hope that Channel 4 executives will actually watch it next time around. Just as disheartening are rumours that Katie Melua has been allowed to leave a North Sea oil rig after playing a gig 303 metres down. Opportunity missed there.
Jamelia has been sticking her elegant size 6s into the WAGs, claiming she doesnt play on the status of her celebrity footballer boyfriend, unlike others we could mention. None of the established WAGs has been cruel enough to point out that no one has actually heard of Darren Byfield. Oh, hang on, they have. Sweet.
Good news for Razorlight, who have achieved their targets for the third quarter of Financial Year 2007 in hitting No.1 with America. Frontman Johnny Borrell has probably been reported to have said that the band is delighted to have hit revenue projections and career milestones ahead of schedule, and that they are looking forward to exploiting openings in the Christmas market. Rock n roll.
Speaking of Christmas, heavyweight greatest hits sets look to be the order of the day. Theres an intriguing face-off between Sugababes and Girls Aloud - you would not want to be caught in the middle of that. Or maybe you would, depending on your poison. But the daddy has to be the set from Oasis. The cocksure has-beens are launching it with new single Acquiesce, their best in over a decade. Sadly, its over a decade old.
